Where to stay

Malta’s small and fairly easy to get around, so really there’s no location that’s too far or too out of the way. That said, we’ve put some suggestions here based on what’s central and/or close to the wedding venue. If none of the below tickle your fancy, do not fret, there are loads of hotels and airbnbs scattered across the island – if in doubt, reach out and we’ll be happy to offer our (Kristina’s) local tips.

1. ✦ Valletta

Valletta is Malta’s beautiful capital city – littered with sites to see and some of the best bars and restaurants, Valletta is also where the wedding ceremony will be held. It’s also a great location for ease of travel, with buses and taxis readily available and ferries that can take you to Sliema or to the Three Cities in under 10 minutes, making it our top recommendation for places to stay.

The Embassy Valletta Hotel

Recently opened in December 2020, the Embassy Valletta Hotel has a rooftop swimming pool and a cinema room. It’s also 400m away from the church we’ll be getting married in. The hotel is offering us 15% off on all bookings arrange prior to 25th May with the promo code “PKWMULL“! Be sure to use this if booking dates between 25th May – 5th June at The Embassy.

AX The Saint John

500m away from the church, AX The Saint John is a boutique hotel with 19 rooms and with a gastropub called the Cheeky Monkey Gastropub offering some super tasty burgers. The hotel’s offering us 2021 rates for 2022 bookings for the wedding, so if this is the option you’d like to take up, get in touch and we’ll send you the relevant form!

The Phoenicia

Also a 400m walk away from the church and through the Valletta gates, we thought we’d mention this one as it has one of the best looking infinity pools on the island. Relaunched in June of 2020, the Phoenicia is the place for you if you’re looking for a poolside holiday.

2. ✦  Sliema / St Julians

Sliema and St Julians are two neighbouring towns which together make up the commercial hub of the island. This is a great spot if you want to be close to local nightlife or if you plan on doing some shopping while you’re here! For EUR1.50, you can get to Valletta by ferry for a real island experience.

AX The Palace

The Palace is a road away from the Sliema waterfront and is close to a number of restaurants and shops (and is a 3 minute walk away from Starbucks). It also has a rooftop infinity pool with great sunset views and a rooftop Asian restaurant that is *insert chef’s kiss*

1926

1926 Hotel & Spa is the perfect combination of a central location that’s tucked into a side street for some peace and quiet. It’s a five minute walk away from the ferry terminal and a reservation at the hotel also gives you free access to 1926’s seafront beach club 200m down the road.

HOLM Hotel

Holm (which means “Dreams”) Hotel is where to go if you’re looking to relax and unwind. The boutique hotel is best known for its Ikonika spa which in addition to the normal treatments and rooms offers an ice cabin, shower path, foot spa and, of course, a rooftop pool. You can also book rooms with private hot tubs on the balcony!

3. ✦ Bugibba / St Paul’s Bay

Bugibba and St Paul’s Bay are a little further away from the wedding venue, but in Malta that means a 27 minute drive. We picked Bugibba and St Paul’s Bay as a worthy mention as this area is loved by British tourists having a number of English and Irish pubs and restaurants. It’s also home to Cafe del Mar and Beef Bar, two of the most popular beach clubs on the island.

Dolmen Hotel

The Dolmen Hotel is located on the seafront in St Paul’s Bay and along with panoramic sea views, the hotel has 6 pools and a private beach that guests of the hotel can access.

db San Antonio Hotel

This is a great choice for families with younger kids, with daily organised animation, sports activities and pool slides and child care facilities.
